Employment Transition Coaching transcends retirement planning

Yesterday I got a call from someone seeking advice on who could help her. "I want professional counseling or coaching, but I think if I understand what you do, you support people preparing for retirement or those who want to go into self employment."

I listened to her and what she needed was neither counseling nor coaching. She required technical support, and I therefore recommended a consulting trainer who can bridge the gap.

Back to employment transition. The key word here is transition, and this happens from the time you start a career all the way to retirement. There are many transition points. You could be desiring the next position; you could be wondering what next; you could have taken on a managerial or leadership role, but you are struggling to fit in; you could be facing challenges with performance in your role - these are all aspects of employment transition.

In 2019 for example, the Women in News programme under the World Association of Newspaper Publishers and Printers attached Victoria Bagaya to me as her coach for seven months. Part of this journey involves supporting the journalists to develop five year career road maps.

Victoria's five year goal was to become a Prime News Anchor. This meant she would achieve her dream in 2024.

Well, Victoria achieved this dream in four months into the journey with me. The joke of our sessions became what next? Interestingly, one year down the road, she was nominated News Anchor of the year during last year's Employee of the Year Awards by Next Media.

I celebrate Victoria.

One of the major benefits of coaching is fast tracking your progress.
